Child Care Facility Support
Smart Start supports child care facilities to maintain or enhance the quality of their programs and improve their delivery of services to young children.
Technical Assistance
Smart Start of Forsyth County offers Technical Assistance Services (TAS), a membership-based service for
early childhood educators, child care providers, center directors, preschool teachers, teacher assistants/aides,
nannies, family child care home providers, play group coordinators, early childhood education students
and/or any professional who works with children birth to five years of age. TAS provides professional
development, classroom and center resources, support, consultation, technical, and financial assistance.
As a member, professionals receive all TAS services and programs at no cost. These services include a
curriculum support lending library, fingerprinting services (small cost associated with this service),
professional development training, and a new staff orientation offered twice a year. A monthly directors
forum is also offered for networking purposes. Child care centers may also participate in the quality
improvement program or the quality maintenance program to increase or maintain their star rating.

Work Family Resource Center offers the Continuum of Professional Development to Forsyth County’s
family child care homes to improve the quality of licensed homes. Family child care professionals enter
the Continuum at stage 1 and progress through the four stages of the program based on their educational
achievement, star rating and professional development. Specialists provide technical assistance, training,
and support to help the providers improve the quality of their child care environments. Additionally,
the Continuum provides financial incentives for meeting educational and star rating requirements. Services
