Tips for Parents

Be positive. Try telling a child what to do instead of what not to do. Example: Say, “Please walk inside the house.” Instead of, “Don’t run in the house.”

Our History

Smart Start of Forsyth County (SSFC) began as Forsyth Early Childhood Partnership in 1994 as a local partnership agency of the North Carolina Partnership for Children (NCPC). As a local partnership agency, SSFC receives funds from earmarked Smart Start state-granted dollars via NCPC. SSFC began approximately two years after the inception of NCPC.

In its early years SSFC initiated broad and extensive collaborations among child care providers, human service organizations, government agencies, the faith community, health care providers, and local businesses to make the community a child-friendly place to live, work and grow. As the nineties came to an end SSFC had made great strides in raising community awareness of early quality child care and education, though recognizing the work that remained ahead.

A study conducted by Wake Forest University showed that individuals did not associate Forsyth Early Childhood Partnership with state Smart Start funding or the Smart Start model. Therefore, in July 2004, the agency’s name changed to Smart Start of Forsyth County and the logo was revised to be more consistent with the successful brand awareness that Smart Start had already achieved.

Presently, Smart Start of Forsyth County employs over 30 staff who ensure successful collaborations and efficient in-house delivery of a variety of services.
